Shemiah Ranger
Shemiah enjoys trying new sports, exploring new places, and building new friendships. She currently competes in a high-performance gymnastics program and has been competing for over 10 years. Shemiah will be attending Queens University to study Psychology, with the end goal of being a lawyer and establishing a faith-based law firm.
Fabian Bennett
Fabian attended IEC as a child and served in many Christmas and Easter productions. He currently attends a church in Brampton and has been there for the past 6 years. He actively participates in their youth group. Fabian will be attending Humber Polytechnic for a 3-year Sports Management Program. Upon completion, he plans to pursue a university degree and wants to continue to have a strong connection with God and to serve Him.
Breanna Baliram
Breanna was raised in a family that values education. They have encouraged and supported her as she pursued her interests and contributions to the community. She feels that her upbringing has instilled a sense of purpose and resilience that has made her who she is today. She is currently pursuing Nursing at George Brown College to work in the Neonatal Department. Whether working in a hospital, a community setting or continuing into an advanced practice, she aims to be a nurse who leads with empathy and acts with integrity to make a lasting impact on the lives
of others.
Xavier Lewis
Xavier has been attending IEC since childhood. He has been volunteering with several ministries and feels that volunteering has been a blessing in his life, not only because of the various opportunities and experiences, but because IEC has been his home away from home. In September, Xavier will be attending Humber Polytechnic to study Carpentry and Renovation. This program will help him to fulfill his ultimate goal of starting his own business.
Mahkiah Davis-Morant
Mahkiah is an active participant at IEC, volunteering with many Ministries, assisting with setting up and tearing down after events; handing out bulletins, supporting Youth Leaders during meetings; leading youth services; participating in food donation drives. He enjoys playing sports and will be pursuing a Sports Management Program at Humber Polytechnic this Fall. He hopes to manage a basketball team one day. Mahkiah has a fun personality and likes to tell jokes.
The winner of the Charles Palomino Scholarship in 2016 was thrilled to share an update – he has been accepted to the University of Toronto School of Medicine, Class of 2028! His journey has been long and full of ups and downs, but God is great; finally, he’s made it.
After graduating from high school, he ventured into clinical research, followed by biochemistry research, and is currently involved in drug discovery research in Delaware for a biopharmaceutical company. He is, however, looking forward to returning to Toronto and embarking on his medical school journey – his true calling in life.
Ashley completed the doctorate program at New York Chiropractic College. She is now a Chiropractor serving in her community in Brampton and surrounding areas. Ashley was baptized and raised in the IEC church family, and the Lord has blessed her tremendously. She appreciated the financial support and kind words of encouragement throughout the years. The scholarship award in 2018 has had a positive impact on her, her family and her community.
Cordell, another 2018 Scholarship recipient, graduated with a JD (Doctor of Jurisprudence) from Chicago University. He has also obtained a certificate from the Doctoroff Law and Business Program. His area of practice will be Corporate Law. He recently took the bar exam for California and is awaiting the results. He has already accepted a job offer in California and will start in October.
