Our Core Values
The Word
The Bible is the foundation of our faith and the master key of life,
Prayer
God desires His people to depend on Him. The ministries of the Church will rely on prayer in all endeavours.
Family
As the Body of Christ, IEC is a place where everyone is accepted and loved unconditionally.
The Lost
It is our practice to connect all people to Christ through evangelism, world missions and life groups.
IEC Family
Love God. Love People. Make Disciples.
If you do not currently have a home church we encourage you to consider IEC. Perhaps you have not yet accepted God’s wonderful gift of forgiveness, peace and eternal life. You are not yet a part of His family. At some point during the service an opportunity will be given you to make that decision. It is the greatest and most important decision you will ever make in this life because it has eternal consequences. We encourage you to contact us by phone, email or simply speak to the pastor after the service. He would be happy to help you in your journey of faith. Thank you for visiting us today. We hope to see you again real soon. Please take one of our monthly bulletins with you. It contains our service times, weekly and special events, staff and contact information.
What is a Life Group?
Connecting all people to God through relationships
A life group is a small group of people who meet together helping each other to explore and apply biblical principles to everyday life. Life Groups help people to grow in their faith in Jesus and provide support and a sense of community. No one should live life alone. We all need someone to stand with us in difficult times and celebrate with us when we experience a blessing. It is a place where you are free to ask questions, pray, encourage and be encouraged by one another. If you would like to know if there is a Life Group in your neighbourhood, please check out our Guest Services for a list, send us an email or call the office.
Where it all began
In 1952 eight families living in “Islington” founded Islington Evangel Centre (IEC). Meetings were held in rental space above Edward Hardware, then the Canadian Legion, then in Wedgewood School. Ernie Zilch, the Assistant Pastor and his wife from Stone Church, was the first pastor.
In 1953 land was purchased at the corner of Wedgewood and Burnhamthorpe. Following Pastor Zilch’s eight years of ministry, Pastors David Bowen, Len Evans, Ed Corley and David Edwards all lead the Church until 1974. At that time Rev. David Sture became the Senior Pastor and served for ten years. Then David Macfarlane in 1984 assumed the leadership of the church. Steady growth brought about a move to Martin Grove and Albion in 1985. In 1994 Pastor Wayne McNeilly was appointed as Senior Pastor, and through the Lord’s blessing the church relocated to its present campus on Queens Plate Drive. Numerous staff has served with excellence and diligence and has enlarged and enhanced the overall ministry of IEC.
In January 2006 IEC was given oversight by the Reverend Dennis White who first served as Interim Pastor, then Senior Pastor and Associate Pastor until 2012. At present we are blessed to have the Reverend David Connolly as our Lead Pastor. Having served the Lord for many years at IEC, Pastor Dave assumes his role and his responsibilities with the conviction that his ultimate
goal is that of helping each member to achieve their fullest potential in Jesus Christ.
In 1952 Islington Evangel Centre was incorporated, and developed By-laws to guide its government and operations. It has established a Missions Policy so that the church can fulfill the Great Commission.
May the Lord be praised and may His blessings continue to rest upon us as we continue in our efforts to fulfill our mission of loving God, loving people and making disciples.
